MOTOGP: Ducati: We Must Win With Rossi In 2011 - SPEEDtv.com

Ducati has a bold plan for 2011 -- to win the MotoGP World Championship with Valentino Rossi in their first season together. That is the target of the Italian dream team according to Filippo Preziosi, the General Manager of Ducati Corse.

Rossi makes his highly anticipated Ducati debut at the two-day post-season Valencia test beginning on Tuesday (November 9th) with his long-serving crew chief Jeremy Burgess joining him from Yamaha.

This will be a crucial two days if Ducati are to reach their high expectations.

Rossi, 31, has won championships in every GP category with a career that has spanned tenures with Aprilia, Honda, and Yamaha. Preziosi does not want the embarrassment of the sequence ending with Ducati. The pressure is on.

"There is only one target -- to win the championship immediately, in 2011," Preziosi said. "This is what I want and also what Valentino wants. Valentino has won the title with every bike he has ridden in 125, 250, and 500cc, plus MotoGP, and I don't what this to stop with us.

"We are a small company compared to the giants like Honda and Yamaha. It is impossible for us to apply the same force and budget as these companies. But we can apply our strengths in technology, our passion, and our 100 people in the race department."

Rossi joins Ducati after eleven seasons of 500cc and MotoGP riding Japanese bikes with Honda and Yamaha.

Ducati's strength has always been its engine, especially with the heavy influence of electronics on the peaky horsepower of their 800cc V4 motor. Preziosi has cleared the decks and already completed the design concept of the new 1,000cc bike for 2012 so that he can concentrate on the GP11 for Rossi.
