2011 Honda MotoGP Prep
The final stage of recovery has begun for Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa, and the Spaniard is expected to start physical training for the 2011 MotoGP season in early January.
Pedrosa continues to recover from a double-fracture to his left collarbone, an injury the 24-year old sustained at Motegi during practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. During the wreck, the accelerator became stuck on his Honda RC212V.
Pedrosa was operated on that MotoGP weekend, but the heavy contusion and swelling in the area caused a numbness and lack of strength in the left arm.
Pedrosa went on to miss that race and the subsequent Malaysia (Sepang) GP. Pedrosa attempted to compete at Phillip Island, but DNS'd due to pain. He would race in Portugal and Valencia, but was unable to produce a top-five position as he usually does on the Honda.
Going into Sepang, he was the only rider capable of catching the 2010 MotoGP Champion, Jorge Lorenzo. Regardless, he still finished second overall.
But now he has his eyes on next year's title, hoping he can be competitive on the Honda RC212V. His January training will prepare him for the first official test of the 2011 MotoGP season at Sepang Feb. 1-3.
With a few days of rest remaining, the Honda MotoGP pilot will participate in two charity events leading up to the Christmas holiday.
On Sunday, Dec. 19, Pedrosa will be one of the stars invited to join the TV Marathon held annually by Catalunya´s official TV station, which this year is devoted to raising money for research into spinal cord and acquired brain injuries.
Then on Tuesday, Dec. 21, Pedrosa will at a shopping center in Barcelona (Fnac Illa Diagonal) promoting a children's book.
The story, entitled "Two mechanical elves for Dani Pedrosa" tells the story of his beginnings in the world of motorcycling. Five-percent of the profits from book sales will go to the NGO SOS Aldeas Infantiles, on Dani's request.
The event will include the launch of the book to the media at 5:30 p.m. and the subsequent book signing session for fans from 6 to 7 p.m.
