Casey Stoner signed off on a successful visit to Malaysia by breaking the lap record on the final day of pre-season testing on Thursday. The Repsol Honda rider clocked a best lap of 1 minute 59.665 seconds, almost one second quicker than the previous record set by Valentino Rossi in 2009, a time which completed a clean sweep for the Australian during the three days of testing at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. âThe test here has been very productive for us, we did a long run here today â" almost race distance â" and gathered some key information,â Stoner said. âIâm feeling more and more comfortable on the RC212V and I canât wait to get to Qatar.â Stonerâs team-mate Dani Pedrosa also got under the two-minute mark, lapping the Sepang track in 1:59.803 to leave Repsol Honda well-placed ahead of the season-opener in Qatar next month. Honda Gresiniâs Marco Simoncelli (2:00.163) was third-quickest on the final day of testing, four-tenths of a second ahead of a third Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso (2:00.541). Yamahaâs Ben Spies rounded out the top five, 0.137 seconds behind Dovizioso. Spiesâ team-mate and defending champion Jorge Lorenzo could only manage seventh in the standings, while Rossi was well off the pace in 11th. The MotoGP teams meet at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar for the final leg of testing on March 13-14, ahead of the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix on March 20.
