Organisers dismiss MotoGP shift talk - ABC Online

The organisers of the Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island have assured fans there is no risk of the event being removed from the international calendar.

Some media reports claim the promoters will not approve the race unless it is held in March, after riders complained about this year's wet and windy conditions.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation boss Andrew Westacott says the contract states the race will be held in September or October until 2016.

"[Race promoter] Dorna has asked us to review the matter and those discussions are ongoing," he said.

"But the timeslot and the preferred option for us it to have it in September/October.

"As most motorsport fans will know, the vagaries of the weather mean that there's no guarantees of a good day or bad at Phillip Island."

PHILLIP Island may lose its treasured spot on the MotoGP calendar unless the race is switched to March.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation and MotoGP organisers appear to be at loggerheads over the timing of the Grand Prix, traditionally held in October.

But this year's wet and wild staging of the event prompted riders, led by seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi, to criticise the spring timeslot, saying the cold weather and fierce winds ruin the spectacle for riders and fans.

Promotions company Dorna, which runs the series, has stated that unless the organisers switch the date the race would not be approved.

Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta said the 2011 GP would go ahead on October 14-16, but from then on the race had to be brought forward.

"It was clear that to move for next year was very complicated," Ezpeleta told motorcyclenews.com.

"We have spoken to them and for next year the calendar will be as the provisional one already printed. We understand because of the short notice, but for 2012 it will be at the beginning of the season.

"It must be at the beginning of the year because I think it is too risky later in the season.

"For 2012 it will be compulsory and the FIM will not homologate the circuit unless the race is at the beginning of the year. There can be no excuses in 2012."

Moving the race to March would add chaos to an already crowded autumn motor racing calendar in Victoria.

Phillip Island hosts a round of the World Superbikes Championship in February, while the Australian Formula One Grand Prix is held at Albert Park in late March.

AGPC boss Andrew Westacott said a March date would cause problems for organisers, but he was confident the date would remain unchanged.

"There's a contract that Dorna have got that exists with us that says the race will be in September-October until 2016," Westacott said.

"Carmelo has been suggesting this on and off, but we've never had a delayed race, never had a cancelled race.

"The vagaries of the weather exist all around the place at various times of the year.

"It's not as easy as saying we'll just slot it in in March.

"Marshals and emergency services would also be doing potentially World Superbikes (in February), MotoGP testing at Phillip Island and the Formula One event."

Although Valentino Rossi continues to recover from shoulder surgery, the nine-time World Champion will have some fun at the fourth annual Wroom Ferrari & Ducati Press Ski Meeting in the Dolomites, Italy.

Rossi, who signed with the Ducati Team after seven years of MotoGP racing with Yamaha, will not partake in any events like snowboarding, but will compete against double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso in four-wheel ice races.

Besides taking on Alonso, Rossi will also speak for the first time publicly for Ducati, and the 2011 Ducati Team livery will be unveiled. But it's the pride of Rossi that's the news here, due to the rivalry between the two MotoGP and F1 stars.

Alonso has questioned Rossi's ability in the past. After Rossi participated in Ferrari F1 tests in 2006, Alonso said the Ducati MotoGP racer would likely finish higher than fifth if he raced. But he then went on to say that he could win a MotoGP race if he was given enough time to practice.

This created a showdown between the Italian and Spanish stars, which will likely create some rivalry at the Wroom Ferrari & Ducati meeting in the Dolomites. Rossi and Alonso will go head-to-head on the ice, most likely racing Fiat 4X4 Pandas and go-karts, similar to the 2010 Wroom event.

The 31-year-old Rossi now joins American Nicky Hayden on the Ducati Team; they reportedly get on well together based on their team-mate experience from the Repsol Honda days back in 2003. Rossi won the championship that year, and Hayden, during his debut MotoGP year, finished fifth.

As for Fiat Yamaha, 2010 World Champion Jorge Lorenzo is staying with the team. Joining him will be American Ben Spies, who under MotoGP rules had to compete on a satellite team for one year before he could land a ride with a factory team such as Fiat Yamaha.

Spies has shown much progress on the satellite team, Monster Tech 3 Yamaha, as he raced alongside fellow Texan Colin Edwards for 2010. Joining Edwards on the Yamaha satellite team for 2011 will be MotoGP rookie but highly-rated Brit Cal Crutchlow, who carded several race wins in 2010 aboard the Sterilgarda Yamaha World Superbike race team. VR 46 takes Casey Stoner's place at Ducati, as the Australian MotoGP racer becomes a third Repsol Honda factory rider alongside Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa for 2011.

In 2010, Rossi returned to racing at Sachsenring after recovering from a broken leg that he sustained at Round 4 in Mugello. Rossi missed that round, and the subsequent three.

Rossi finished the season a creditable third overall, behind Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa and his former teammate Lorenzo.

Max Biaggi is getting ready for another run at the World Superbike championship, but he knows that the MotoGP will have one of the most exciting seasons in 2011. Jorge Lorenzo will be returning to defend his title, Valentino Rossi will be on a new motorcycle, and Casey Stoner has made the transition from Ducati to Honda flawlessly. The 2011 MotoGP season will see a lot of riders on new bikes, and they will all be gunning for Lorenzo. 

Biaggi is putting his money on the returning champ, but says that the MotoGP riders shouldn't count out Stoner. 

"Lorenzo had an outstanding season and did a great job - it was really good. I am convinced that he will be the man to beat again next year. But beware Stoner,” Biaggi said. 

Biaggi spent 8 seasons in the MotoGP, but hasn't raced in the premier class since 2005. During his time in the MotoGP the 2010 WSBK champ and Valentino Rossi formed a bit of a rivalry. Rossi wasn't even mentioned in Biaggi's prediction, but the Roman Emperor has always been a little biased against his Italian foe. 

As far as the World Superbike goes, Carlos Checa has come out to say that Max Biaggi is the man to beat in 2011. Checa is confident that he'll be able to compete with the front runners, but knows that he'll have challenges from Marco Melandri, Jonathan Rea, and Eugene Laverty.

For a two decade run there might have been no more overpowering force in the world of motorsport than the Honda Motor Corporation. Driven to succeed due in large part thanks to Soichiro Honda's racing background, and with virtually unrivaled engineering know-how, it didn't matter if it was Formula 1, American open-wheel cars, Superbikes, or Grand Prix machines, Honda seemed capable of not only winning practically any series they desired, but humiliating the opposition along the way.

During the late '80s and early '90s Honda-powered cars claimed six straights F1 titles. Seeking a new challenge, they did the same thing in the CART IndyCar World Series, and later chased away all competitors due to their domination of the IRL.

The story was much the same in the two-wheeled arena with Mick Doohan, Alex Criville, and Valentino Rossi teaming up to score nine of ten 500GP/MotoGP titles from 1994 to 2002. The wicked NSR500 was widely regarded the class of the field long before that, only being held back from even greater success due to superior talents such as Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz representing their rivals in spectacular fashion.

During this golden era, some of their most remarkable feats took place in World Superbike. The RVF750RR RC45 proved to be something of a blunder when first introduced, but through pure engineering muscle, HRC overcame its shortcomings -- as well as the rulebook disadvantages it faced versus the twin-cylinder Ducatis -- and transformed the once ridiculed V4 into a blisteringly fast world champion-wining machine in 1997. Then, just to prove a point, they turned out a V-Twin of their own for their next-gen racers and promptly walked away with the championship in its debut season.

But that was a long time ago. The once-razor sharp teeth have dulled and the name Honda doesn't quite strike the same sort of fear into its competition these days. A prolonged attempt to reclaim their former Formula 1 glory never produced the intended results, and just to add insult to injury, when they finally pulled the plug on the program, the team they abandoned went on to immediately storm the championship once freed.

And Honda is now just another player in the Superbike World Championship, a winner of one of eight championships since the series became more of a importer affair than the realm of full-works efforts.

Pakar Iklan Hasil Pilkada Ulang pandeglang : Kabupaten Pandeglang, Provinsi Banten, menggelar pelaksanaan pencoblosan ulang pemilihan umum kepala daerah (pemilu kada) pada Minggu (26/12). Ketua Kelompok Kerja Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) Kabupaten Pandeglang Saefudin Juhri, Sabtu (25/12), mengatakan, pihaknya sudah mendistribusikan logistik ke seluruh Panitia Pemungutan Kecamatan (PPK). Sebanyak 18 item logistik tersebut didisitribusikan ke PPK, seperti kertas suara, kotak suara, bilik suara, dan form C6 yang akan digunakan pada hari pemungutan suara ulang.

Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) Kabupaten Pandeglang, Banten, menggelar pemilihan umum kepala daerah (pemilu kada) ulang, Minggu (26/12). Ini karena adanya vonis Mahkamah Konstitusi (MK) tertanggal 4 November 2010.

Hingga berita ini diturunkan, belum diketahui pemenang pemilu kada ulang Pandeglang ini karena baik KPU maupun masing-masing pasangan calon tidak menggunakan perhitungan cepat atau quick count.

Menurut Ketua Panitia Pengawas (Panwas) Pemilu Kada Kabupaten Pandeglang Masykur, pihaknya menemukan 70 kecurangan dalam pemilu kada ini. Kecurangan yang ditemukan Panwas adalah berupa money politic. "Dari 70 kecurangan tersebut, 69 kecurangan dilakukan oleh pasangan Irna Narulita-Apud Mahpud dan 1 kecurangan dilakukan oleh pasangan Erwan Kurtubi-Heriyani," ujar Masykur.

Spies wants first MotoGP win in 2011 - Yahoo! Eurosport UK

Ben Spies is targeting nothing less than his first MotoGP race victory next season, when the 2010 Rookie of the Year will step up to the factory Yamaha team.

"To do what I haven't done before and win a race," Cycle News quotes Spies as saying during a recent visit to the Long Beach Motorcycle Show, when asked about his main goal for next year.

We're definitely not the person that everybody is looking at right out of the gate, but we'll try and sneak up there.

This is the first year for me in a few years where I won't be the young kid, the rookie or the new guy learning tracks... I don't have any excuses next year so we need to step up for sure."

Spies, who said his personal 2010 highlight was pole in front of his home fans at Indianapolis, unsurprisingly picked world champion and new team-mate Jorge Lorenzo as the man to beat.

"The most dangerous guy for next year is definitely Jorge, Spies said. He's on a great bike as we know. He's got a lot of good things about him as a rider. When he had to step up this year, he stepped up. When he had to back off, he knew when to back off.

I think him, Casey [Stoner] will be fast and Valentino [Rossi] has a lot of work to do with the Ducati, but he's one guy I'm not putting money against. There's 16 or 17 guys who are fast out there, but I would say Jorge for sure. He's the one with the bullseye on his back."

Spies, the 2009 World Superbike champion, identified early race laps as his main area of weakness this year.

"We need to be better in the first laps - just trust the tyres more, he explained. It's something I have to work on as a rider and I'm not afraid to admit it. We've been good in the middle of the race and at the end, but it doesn't hack it when you're 10 seconds back on lap 20. I just need to trust more and get more confidence and experience... I think that's the key to it."

Looking further ahead, 2012 will see MotoGP switch from 800 to 1000cc engines, a capacity Spies is more than familiar with from Superbike competition.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "The way I ride, the way I like the bikes to work, I like bigger ccs and it's a different riding style for sure. I think it's good for the series, good for the fans.

I think I will benefit from it more than some riders, but then there are some riders who will hit the ground running. Some of the manufacturers might start out ahead and I'm hoping Yamaha is working on [the 1000cc] right now. I look forward to it... from the fans [point of view] to riding it, to everything."

Spies finished sixth in the 2010 MotoGP World Championship, with two podiums for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team. His place at Tech 3 will be taken by British rider Cal Crutchlow next season.

Both of Yamahas factory MotoGP riders have won races every season since 2008.

MotoGP: Dani Pedrosa to Resume Full Training in January - Auto Racing Daily

Repsol Honda Team rider Dani Pedrosa is now in the final stages of recovery from the shoulder injury he sustained last October and is excited to return to training in early January.
The Spaniard will spend a full month working on his physical condition to ensure that he is in the best possible shape for the first MotoGP test of 2011 at Sepang, Malaysia, from February 1st to 3rd.
Pedrosa, who finished the 2010 MotoGP World Championship second overall, was told by specialists to rest the shoulder, which sustained heavy trauma damage when broke his left collarbone in two places during practice for October’s Japanese Grand Prix.

The injury was pinned and plated at Barcelona’s USP Instittut Universitari Dexeus, but serious bruising and swelling in the shoulder caused Pedrosa a serious lack of strength and feeling throughout the arm during the last few races of the season.
Dani Pedrosa will make good use of his final days off to take part in two pre-Christmas charity events in Spain.

On Sunday December 19th he will be one of several stars who will participate in the TV3 Marathon which this year raises money for those who have suffered spinal cord or brain injuries.

Paris Hilton Launches Racing Team, SuperMartxé VIP - Gather Celebs News Channel

Paris Hilton has launched her very own motorcycle racing team. SuperMartxé VIP is a 125cc MotoGP team, based out of Barcelona, Spaon. The team’s racing colors are pink, blue, and white. Hilton made the announcement of her new 125cc team on Saturday in Madrid.

For the big launch, Hilton wore a super-tight, blinged-out, pink and white bodysuit, and white high heel boots. It’s not clear whether or not she will require her riders to wear the same outfit.

One would hope that there would be some allowances to the fit. After all, not every MotoGP racer wants to show off his cleavage, or wear high heels. The two riders who posed with Paris at the launch, Sergio Gadea and Maverick Viñales, don’t seem to have the appropriate figures for Paris’s outfit.

Having Paris Hilton at the helm of a motorcycle racing team may seem like a strange prospect; however, she is not really running the show. Raúl Romero will be running the team, with Ricard Jové working as the team’s technical director, and Rossano Brazzi handling the preparation of the motorcycles, themselves.

So, what does Paris Hilton bring to the SuperMartxé VIP team? Press and name recognition, for starters. With the team still scouting for more riders, Hilton’s partnership may tip the scales for those who were unsure about joining. The possibility of getting close to Paris may be a temptation that is too hard to resist for some riders.

SuperMartxe VIP 125cc MotoGP

When Paris Hilton officially announced Monday that she will be fielding riders for the 2011 125cc MotoGP Championship, the media went mad, every outlet from the New York Times to the most notable journalist in the motorcycle industry vying for a better angle.

As coverage continued of this pop star entering the world of MotoGP racing, many eagerly awaited for the unveiling of the new SuperMartxe VIP by Paris Hilton team, which is a joint effort with the By Queroseno Racing (BQR) racing team out of Barcelona.

And this superstar premier came Saturday, as Hilton presented her new 125cc MotoGP team in the Spanish Capital of Madrid. Donned in skin-tight leathers, Hilton unveiled the pink, white and blue Aprilia RSA motorcycles alongside SuperMartxe VIP riders Sergio Gadea and Maverick Vinales.

Vinales, 15, won both the Spanish national and European 125cc championships this year.

The SuperMartxe team will be run by Raul Romero, who stated he will fight for the final 125cc title before the category is replaced by the new Moto3 class in 2012.

MotoGP states the sporting and technical director will be Ricard Jové whilst the highly accomplished Rossano Brazzi, who has previously worked alongside Valentino Rossi and Max Biaggi, will be responsible for the preparation of the bikes.

Reports say that Paris Hilton was approached by BQR team partner Riccard Garriga and Nano Barea, the founder of SuperMartxe (an Ibiza-based dance-party series that Hilton has been affiliated since 2009). Hilton responded excitedly, and decided to become one of the team owners.

Under contract, Paris Hilton must attend five (out of 17) rounds of the MotoGP Championship. It has not been reported which races she will attend.

Although MotoGP races are the most popular across motorcycle racing, Hilton's exposure is expected to bring an even wider audience to the sport.

Hilton will be another giant celebertiy within the motor-racing industry; the other most notable celebrity is Michael Jordan, who fields a team in the AMA Superbike series.

Paris Hilton Presents Her Supermatxe Motorcycle Team - The Gossip Girls

Testing her luck in a new venture, Paris Hilton presented her Supermatxe Motorcycle Team in Madrid, Spain on Saturday (December 18).

Looking sexy in a skintight racing suit, the hotel heiress partook in a press conference at Hotel ME to announce plans for her team to compete in the 2011 125cc MotoGP World Championship season.

Signing a five-year-deal in which she'll attend multiple races throughout each season, the 29-year-old is said to be currently on the lookout for standout cyclists for the Queroseno Racing squad.

Tweeting about the event, Miss Hilton excitedly wrote, "Had an amazing press conference today. Hot."

2011 Honda MotoGP Prep

The final stage of recovery has begun for Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa, and the Spaniard is expected to start physical training for the 2011 MotoGP season in early January.

Pedrosa continues to recover from a double-fracture to his left collarbone, an injury the 24-year old sustained at Motegi during practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. During the wreck, the accelerator became stuck on his Honda RC212V.

Pedrosa was operated on that MotoGP weekend, but the heavy contusion and swelling in the area caused a numbness and lack of strength in the left arm.

Pedrosa went on to miss that race and the subsequent Malaysia (Sepang) GP. Pedrosa attempted to compete at Phillip Island, but DNS'd due to pain. He would race in Portugal and Valencia, but was unable to produce a top-five position as he usually does on the Honda.

Going into Sepang, he was the only rider capable of catching the 2010 MotoGP Champion, Jorge Lorenzo. Regardless, he still finished second overall.

But now he has his eyes on next year's title, hoping he can be competitive on the Honda RC212V. His January training will prepare him for the first official test of the 2011 MotoGP season at Sepang Feb. 1-3.

With a few days of rest remaining, the Honda MotoGP pilot will participate in two charity events leading up to the Christmas holiday.

On Sunday, Dec. 19, Pedrosa will be one of the stars invited to join the TV Marathon held annually by Catalunya´s official TV station, which this year is devoted to raising money for research into spinal cord and acquired brain injuries.

Then on Tuesday, Dec. 21, Pedrosa will at a shopping center in Barcelona (Fnac Illa Diagonal) promoting a children's book.

The story, entitled "Two mechanical elves for Dani Pedrosa" tells the story of his beginnings in the world of motorcycling. Five-percent of the profits from book sales will go to the NGO SOS Aldeas Infantiles, on Dani's request.

The event will include the launch of the book to the media at 5:30 p.m. and the subsequent book signing session for fans from 6 to 7 p.m.

T-Mobile drops on

Having spent some quality time with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, I am still not convinced that it’s worth it for the price especially on contract. The hardware is great but the software is a huge letdown and if it doesn’t get Honeycomb aka Android 3.0, it’s 100% not worth getting on contract.

Paris Hilton is getting into racing.

Yes, this is where we are now, people. Only good news in all this, at least if you're a fan of four-wheel racing? It's not NASCAR, it's MotoGP.

Hilton has announced that she's involved with â€" but not in that way, we're assuming â€" a new team in the 2011 125cc World Championship season called, deep breath: "SuperMartxé VIP by Paris Hilton." ("SuperMartxé VIP" is a "dance party series" based out of Ibiza. Yes, really.) The dance series decided to get into the racing business, and brought Paris along for the ride.

The formal announcement will come Saturday. Hilton was reportedly so excited about the idea that she bought in as a part owner of the team. (Sample Tweets from Ms. Hilton: "This is going to be fun!" and "I love motorcycles.")

The team, run in conjunction with By Queroseno Racing, will field two drivers, Sergio Gadea and Maverick Viñales, and I hope these poor suckers know what they're getting into. The 125cc level is MotoGP's entry series, with 250cc and 500cc comprising the higher levels.

Part of her contract stipulates that Hilton has to appear at five sanctioned races during the 2011 season. Please oh please oh please let her massacre sing the National Anthem of whatever country she's in. Do this for us.
