The Team Manager for the Ducati Factory Team, Vittoriano Guareschi, recently discussed the 2010 MotoGP campaigns of Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden, and of the new star on the team for 2011, Valentino Rossi.

In an official MotoGP interview, Guareschi talked of the tough 2010 MotoGP Championship year with former rider Stoner and the American Hayden.

Vittoriano Guareschi (Ducati MotoGP Team Manager) says: "This year has gone well and not so well for us. We suffered at the start, wasting some good opportunities, but in the end we recovered."

"We started the season with a Ducati GP10 that had an engine that was unprecedented, a big bang version in contrast to the screamer that was used the year before. We had to work on the set-up for Casey and make the bike as familiar for him as possible."

"At the start of the MotoGP year, and until mid-season, we weren't able to extract the full potential of the engine. Starting at Aragón we found a set-up that satisfied him fully and then we became main players. If it had been like this from the very start of the year then we would have been amongst those fighting for the title until the end."

Guareschi then switched his thoughts to Hayden's 2010 MotoGP season.

Vittoriano Guareschi says: "He has improved his performance with respect to the year before, he liked the 2010 bike immediately and I think we also did a good job with him."

"Nicky also had ups and downs, perhaps he crashed too much and dropped some points, but we are building a good feeling between him and the team and we expect and hope for a lot in 2011."

Then came the obvious discussion, the much-anticipated nine-time World Champion Rossi and his Italian MotoGP marriage to the Italian Ducati.

Vittoriano Guareschi says: "We have high aims for 2011. We know that Valentino Rossi has always won on all the bikes he has ridden and we have to try. It will be very difficult because our rivals are strong. There's Lorenzo, who is World Champion, Dani Pedrosa, and of course Casey who will want to win. We know how strong he is because of what we all did together."

"We must make the most of a team that never seemed possible, but which has now developed from once being a dream into becoming a reality. We must follow this and win, although this will also be the objective of our rivals."

"There won't be pressure, because the fans know how difficult it is to win. They also know how much Valentino Rossi has won and how much we have achieved too. If everybody works well the results will come."

"Until now Rossi has always improved his bikes, both at Honda and Yamaha. Nicky knows how strong his new Ducati teammate is and is conscious that together they can help to develop the bike. He wants to make it better and knows that with Valentino Rossi beside him it can be achieved."

Yamaha MotoGP

During his rookie year in MotoGP, Ben Spies finished sixth overall, the highest of the Satellite teams. His impressive performance aboard the Monster Tech 3 Yamaha not only earned him the 2010 MotoGP "Rookie of the Year" award, but also a ride with the factory Yamaha team.

For 2011, Spies will fill the vacancy on the factory Yamaha M1 left by Valentino Rossi, and be teammates with 2010 MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo.

And the performance of Spies and his teammate Colin Edwards is one of the reasons Monster Tech 3 Boss Herve Poncharal says "2010 was Tech 3's best MotoGP combination."

Poncharal outlined the successful 2010 Monster Tech 3 Yamaha season in an official MotoGP interview. Here are some quotes of Poncharal reviewing the 2010 season of Yamaha riders Spies and Edwards:

Herve Poncharal says: "We knew we would receive a very strong and talented rider in Ben and while we had high expectations we also knew the year would be a tough one. We have had some riders from superbikes who have had difficulties with the transition, but Ben has done incredibly well."

"Spies was Rookie of the Year and he has done more than we expected: a pole position in Indy, he led the race for seven laps and finished on the podium, had front row starts at Brno and Phillip Island, and had a podium at Silverstone too."

"We cannot forget he also had to learn the tires, the Yamaha M1, some tracks, so considering all this he has done so well. Now he'll go to the factory team which he deserves. We are losing a very good rider, but I think we helped him understand MotoGP and now he is ready to win."

"Colin has had a strong year too. He has helped Ben in his approach to MotoGP and gave him good support, advice and information. He has been a solid team player and I'm really happy to have him for next season."

"For sure this was Tech 3's best combination in MotoGP, because they get along and have a lot of respect for one another, and they laugh a lot together."

"I think the best moment, because it came so early, was the podium at Silverstone. Ben was incredible in difficult conditions, he had crashed on the Saturday (aggravating an injured ankle) and in the race he was just so good. It wasn't an easy race."

"Of course we were disappointed for him at Laguna Seca (sixth position), his home race, but in the second race in the US at Indianapolis he took his chance, got pole, led the race and finished second in front of both factory riders. For me that was the second best moment."

For the 2011 Monster Tech Yamaha season, Poncharal will be managing Edwards and World Superbike sensation Cal Crutchlow.

Herve Poncharal says: "I'm really happy to have Cal next season. I think he is the best man to replace Ben. He did extremely well in 600cc (world supersport) and won that. He won a few races in his first world superbike season and finished fifth, and I think he is ready to come to MotoGP."

"He is so hungry and passionate and the kind of rider that will give 100% every day. I am very excited and it's like a new story starting."

"I'm highly confident we can do something very strong together. I'm hopeful we can give the same support to Cal as we have to Ben, and that he can have the same results too. HG with a high degree of methyl esterification is referred to as "pectin" whereas HG with a low degree of methyl esterification is "pectic acid". HGs may, depending on the plant source also be partially O-acetylated.

HG may account for up to 60% of the pectin in a primary wall. Many of the properties and biological functions of HG are believed to be determined by ionic interactions. Increases in the degree of methyl esterification of HG have been implicated in increased cell separation. Enzymes that fragment HG (endo and exo polygalacturonases and lyases) are secreted by many plant pathogens. The oligogalacturonide fragments generated have been shown to induce several plant defence responses

The sequencing of the Arabidopsis genome has revealed the existence of at least 52 genes encoding putative polygalacturonases. However, there is little know about the function or specificities of these enzymes.

Studies with transgenic plants that over-express a specific endopolygalacturonase (EPG) or have had the levels of endogenous EPG reduced have begun to provide information about the function of HG. For example, neither the supression or over-expression of EPG in tomato fruits affected the fruit ripening process but did alter tissue texture and pectin solubility. In contrast transgenic apples containing additional copies of a fruit-specific EPG exhibited premature leaf shedding, reduced cell adhesion, brittle leaves, and had malformed stomata. It is likely that HG together with other pectic polysaccharide have numerous roles in plant growth and development.

The existence of esters that form between the carboxyl group of a 4-linked GalpA residue and a hydroxyl group of another glycosyl residue has been hypothesized. The presence of non-methyl galacturonosyl esters has been implied from chemical analysis and FT-IR spectroscopy. The trans-esterification of pectin has been reported to be catalyzed by pectin methyl esterases. However, no fragments of HG containining unusual esters have been isolated and structurally characterized.

The mechanism appears to be an increase of viscosity in the intestinal tract, leading to a reduced absorption of cholesterol from bile or food. In the large intestine and colon, microorganisms degrade pectin and liberate short-chain fatty acids that have positive influence on health (prebioticeffect).

It is being towed by a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) tug, the Anglian Earl, five miles off of Falmouth.

Five members of Dutch salvage firm Smit are on board containing the blaze with fire retardant foam and will then assess whether it is safe to bring the ship in to berth at the port. Mark Clarke of the MCA said the current situation was "the least worst option."

"Salvage contractors are onboard the vessel but the fire is still going," he said. "These things can carry on for a long time because of the area involved and the cargo. "We have to make sure the Athena is stable before she comes in to the port. The risk of doing that has so far been deemed greater than leaving her in the current situation. "There is heavy and medium fuel oil in the bunker tanks but they are thankfully not on fire." The male and female crew included Chinese, Russians, Peruvians and Scandinavians.

The government has asked for guarantee of gas supply to feed urea factories for 20 years. The government asked gas producers under new contracts to give priority to meeting domestic gas requirement.

Meanwhile, the country's fertilizer industry will face competition from Chinese producers especially PetroChina with the implementation of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA). Currently the country's fertilizer industry has a total production capacity of 9.1 million tons per year, far below China's 134 million tons per year. However, the country's fertilizer products are still more competitive in price and have met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for urea and ammonia. The Chinese products have not met the Indonesian standard.

The total shrimp production in 2008 was 630,000 tons of which 410,000 tons aquaculture (Indonesian Fisheries Federation, 2009). The value of the latter equals more than US$ 1.5 billion (est.). For comparison: the aquaculture shrimp production in 2003 was only 179,000 tons (DKP, 2005).

The recent increase in aquaculture shrimp production is to a large extent because of restarting in 2006 of the operations at two huge shrimp farms of PT Dipasena Citra Darmaja in Lampung, Sumatra. Currently these farms are part of the CP Group (see below). With a land concession reported at 180,000 hectares, Dipasena has the potential for becoming the largest shrimp farm in the world. Dipasena has been virtually idle following the financial crisis in Southeast Asia in 1998, which led to its takeover by the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA). In 2005, the company was restructured and a new investor, Renaissance Capital Asia, injected $281 million into the farm (AquaCulture Asia Pacific, 2006).

Within Indonesia, shrimp production is concentrated in Lampung (Sumatra), Surabaya (East Java) and Banten (West Java). The majority of shrimp farms in North Sumatra have been faded away in 2004 due to the tsunami.

EU governments on Sunday approved an 85 billion ($115.59 billion) bailout for Ireland to help it withstand the weight of its banking crisis.

According to a statement released by the Irish government, the country will take 10 billion euros ($13.6 billion) immediately to boost the capital reserves of its banks. Another 25 billion euros ($34 billion) earmarked for the banks will remain in reserve.

"The overriding thing is the Aussie is getting a relief bounce in the euro which has dragged the Aussie up," Mr Kelleher said from Auckland.

"We can still expect the markets to be a bit concerned. It was a bit extended up around that parity area."

Investors would sell into rallies during domestic trade, he predicted. "We'll probably see some profit taking on it.

"I think there will be a few exporters buying and a bit of bargain hunting."

Traders were preparing for a "full week of data" ahead and questions would remain around Europe and stability on the Korean peninsula. "There's talk of Belgium being in trouble as well," Mr Kelleher said.

Australian third quarter company profits and inventories are due to be released on Monday as part of the Australian Bureau of Statistics issue of business indicators from the September quarter. RBA governor Glenn Stevens will speak at the annual CEDA dinner in Melbourne on Monday night.

Germany Drops Threat on Bonds : The first test of the twin decisions will come when markets resume trading today after speculation intensified last week that Portugal and perhaps even Spain will require external support. In a third move, Greece was told it could have an extra four-and-a-half years to repay emergency loans totaling 110 billion euros to match the seven-year term under Ireland’s deal.

“People are now going to focus on Portugal and it’s probably also going to need some help,” said Axel Merk, president and chief investment officer of Merk Investments LLC in Palo Alto, California. “We’ll maybe see some relief in markets, but governments need to show they’re getting their economies in shape.”

Six months after the Greek rescue exposed flaws in the euro’s makeup and fueled doubts whether 16 countries belong in the same currency union, policy makers again found themselves meeting on a Sunday racing to calm markets. They convened after a week in which the cost of insuring Portuguese, Irish and Spanish government debt against default rose to a record and the 10-year bond yields of those nations, Italy and Greece averaged more than 7.5 percent, a euro-era record.

German Debt Fix

The euro gained 0.3 percent to $1.3277 at 7:20 a.m. in Tokyo after weakening 3.2 percent against the dollar last week.

Germany, which built the euro on the principle of budgetary rigor, unleashed the latest phase of the crisis by demanding a “permanent” system as of 2013 that would enable fiscally troubled countries to restructure their debts and cut the value of bond holdings.

The German push ran into criticism from policy makers elsewhere who called it mistimed and from European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet, who warned that it would unsettle bondholders. Germany yesterday backed away from the pitch for an automatic penalty, agreeing to give the International Monetary Fund a role in determining losses on a case-by-case basis.

The new proposal, fast-tracked from a debate set for December, would introduce “collective action clauses” for debt sold as of 2013, enabling fiscally hard-hit governments to renegotiate bond contracts. EU governments aim to enshrine it in the bloc’s treaties by mid-2013 and pair it with a new emergency liquidity fund to replace the one expiring then.

‘Herd Behavior’

Trichet yesterday called the compromise a “useful clarification” and the ECB’s Governing Council said in a statement that the Irish program will “contribute to restoring confidence and safeguarding financial stability in the euro area.”

“There’s plenty of herd behavior in the market,” EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn said. “We want to clarify any possible confusion.”

Germany’s export-led economy has powered through the euro crisis, with business confidence at a record high in November and the government projecting expansion of 3.7 percent this year, the fastest pace in more than a decade. That resilience contrasts with recession in Greece and Ireland, splitting the euro region between better-off countries in Germany’s economic slipstream and poorer ones on the continent’s fringes.

Irish Interest Rate

Yesterday’s decisions bring “hope of preventing contagion spreading to other countries but do not address long-term solvency issues,” said Andrew Bosomworth, a Munich-based fund manager at Pacific Investment Management Co. “It’s a kick-the- can-down-the-road solution as opposed to acknowledging and confronting the here and now insolvency problems.”

Ireland said it will pay average interest of 5.8 percent on the loans, which break down into 45 billion euros from European governments, 22.5 billion euros from the IMF and 17.5 billion euros from Ireland’s cash reserves and national pension fund.

“I don’t believe there were any other real options,” Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen told reporters in Dublin.

A day after more than 50,000 protesters marched through Dublin to denounce Cowen’s budget cuts to stave off financial ruin, the EU gave Ireland an extra year, until 2015, to get its budget deficit to the euro limit of 3 percent of gross domestic product.

Including the bill for propping up Irish banks, the deficit is set to reach 32 percent of GDP this year, the highest in the euro’s 12-year history.

U.K. Loan

Cowen has overseen the collapse of Ireland’s banking system and public finances, leading to recession and unemployment of close to 14 percent. Cowen’s government is also unraveling. The Green Party, a junior coalition partner, wants January elections, his party last week lost a special election for a vacant parliamentary seat and some of his own colleagues are slamming his leadership.

Close banking links led Britain, a non-euro user that didn’t contribute to Greece’s 110 billion-euro rescue in May, to contribute 3.8 billion euros to Ireland’s package.

“That is money we fully expect to get back,” Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne told reporters in Brussels. “It’s in everyone’s national interest and it’s in Britain’s national interest that we get some economic stability in Ireland and indeed across the euro zone.”

Portugal’s Growth

The deal for Ireland shifts attention to Portugal, which last week passed the deepest spending cuts in more than three decades with the goal of getting back under the EU’s deficit limits by 2012. HSBC Holdings Plc estimates it needs to find 51.5 billion euros over the next three years to meet its likely budget and bond redemption needs.

While Greece let the budget get out of hand and Ireland fell prey to a housing bust, Portugal suffers from a lack of competitiveness that kept average economic growth below 1 percent in the past decade. Its government has also been slower to cut its deficit than others with the central government deficit widening 1.8 percent in the first ten months of the year as Spain’s fell 47 percent.

Like Ireland, Portugal doesn’t immediately need money to run the government. It has completed this year’s bond sales and doesn’t face a redemption until April. The government debt agency plans to hold an auction of 12-month bills on Dec. 1.

“Portugal doesn’t see a need to ask for help,” German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said yesterday.

Budget Gap

Spanish Economy Minister Elena Salgado yesterday also reiterated that her economy -- the euro zone’s fourth-largest and almost twice the size of Portugal, Ireland and Greece combined -- won’t need aid either. As well as slashing its budget gap, the country has brought regional spending under greater control and half of its debt is held at home, limiting the threat of a withdrawal by foreign investors. It too doesn’t face the first of its 45 billion euros in bond redemptions next year until April.

Reigning MotoGP World Champion, Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo, opened Carole Nash Motorcycle Live in style Saturday, kicking off nine days of full-throttle action at the NEC in Birmingham, Great Britain.

The Spanish MotoGP ace flew into Birmingham last night and was thrilled to see thousands of motorcycle fans braving the cold to fill five halls of the NEC this morning and watch him spark off a firework display to open the Event officially.

Lorenzo joined a number of other motorcycle racers and motorcycling celebrities to fulfill a busy schedule during the day, meeting fans and signing hundreds of autographs, as well as taking part in chat shows and entertainment on stage.

It is the first time in the Motorcycle Event's history that the reigning world champion has opened proceedings and, with almost 40 motorcycle and scooter brands exhibiting at the NEC, it promises to be an unforgettable Event.

As well as looking at all the new motorcycle models from Honda, Triumph, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Suzuki, visitors from the age of five can have a ride on a variety of two-wheelers, either in the warm and dry of the NEC halls, or outside for the more adventurous.

SUCCESSFUL SHAKEDOWN FOR SUTER MARC VDS MOTOGP MACHINE

The Suter Marc VDS MotoGP machine completed a successful first shakedown test at the Jerez circuit in Andaluca, Spain this week. The bike completed more than 100 laps, in both wet and dry conditions, with positive results.

Rain on the first day of testing meant that the bike made its track debut on Michelin wet tyres, with Marc VDS test rider Damian Cudlin at the controls. Despite the difficult conditions the Australian took the opportunity to complete 30 laps, getting a feel for the bike and for the Jerez circuit, which he was riding for the first time.

Dry conditions on the second day saw Cudlin joined by Suter Racing test rider, Carmelo Morales, with the Australian completing more than 70 laps in the morning, before handing over testing duties to his Spanish colleague in the afternoon.

Testing was curtailed on the third and final day, as rain returned to the Jerez circuit.

Powered by a BMW engine, the Suter Marc VDS MotoGP machine has been designed to take advantage of rule changes for 2012 that will allow teams to contest the MotoGP class with machines based around a 1000cc engine housed in a prototype chassis.

India bidding to gain a slot on MotoGP schedule - Yahoo! Eurosport UK

Following recent announcements that both Singapore and Abu Dhabi are keen to gain a foothold on the MotoGP calendar in the coming years, India has now put itself forward as the latest candidate to host a round of the premier class.

India is scheduled to stage its first grand prix in F1 late next year, and the Jaypee Group that is charged with building the circuit in Greater Noida, 50k from Delhi has now entered into negotiations with MotoGP commercial rights-holder Dorna with a similar aim for 2012.

Motor racing is an increasingly popular sport in the country, with the likes of Force India F1, Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan having done much to boost its recognition of late amongst a nation of traditionally cricket devotees. Affluent young people are believed to be the most likely to take an interest.

Yes, we are in touch with Dorna, acknowledged Manu Bhaskar Gaur, executive general manager of Jaypee Sports International, according to the Times of India. The racing track we are building is designed to host both F1 and MotoGP.

It is good news for racing enthusiasts, underlined Pankaj Dubey, national business head at India Yamaha Motor, which pulled off a coup by attracting record-breaking MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi to the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year. Yamaha is already known for motor racing globally, and if there is an Indian edition of it, we would ensure that our bikes race on the track.

Rivals Honda and Ducati are similarly bullish about the prospect of an outing in India. N K Rattan, marketing and sales head at Hondas Indian two-wheeler subsidiary HMSI, contends that the entry of MotoGP should further enhance the fun-biking culture in India, with Honda already holding racing activities at a circuit in Chennai. Ducati APAC CEO Mirko Bordiga, meanwhile, has confessed that we see a lot of potential in India.

The news follows hot on the heels of the ground-breaking confirmation that Indian brand Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is likely to join the 125cc class in 2011 as a bike manufacturer [see separate story click here], whilst Bangalore-based Ten10 Racing has joined forces with the San Marino-based WTR Team to launch WTR-Ten10 Racing Team, with the intention to field one Indian rider and one Italian.

Motor Cycling-India eyes MotoGP in 2012 - Economic Times

NEW DELHI: The promoters of India's inaugural Formula One Grand Prix in 2011 are in talks with MotoGP bosses to bring the world motorcycling championship to the country, a company spokesman said on Tuesday.

"We are negotiating with Dorna Sports (MotoGP commercial rightholders) to bring MotoGP to India but it's quite an early stage and we have not reached a deal yet," a Jaypee Sports International spokesman said.

The 5.14 km track being built at Greater Noida, some 35km from Delhi, will host the 18th leg of next year's Formula One championship on Oct. 30, subject to final approval, and the race promoters are looking at other options to make the track financially viable.

"We have been talking to Dorna as we have been talking to others to explore various other opportunities. Yes, MotoGP might come to India but it's definitely not before 2012," the spokesman said.

Indian automaker Mahindra Group is enthused by the development and will launch a team in the 125cc category, the Times of India newspaper reported on Tuesday.

"This is part of our global branding strategy. MotoGP gives us access to a global platform wherein we can showcase our design, technology, engineering and IT capabilities," Mahindra Group vice chairman Anand Mahindra was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

"The construction of the race track in Noida gives us hopes that MotoGP will come to India."

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Review : Android phones are becoming the next best accessory and many of the handset manufacturers are scrabbling to get their own device launched onto the market. Sony Ericsson has already had relative successes with its Xperia X10 and the smaller package of the Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro, but with the Xperia X8 it appeared to be going for budget but unfortunately, bulk as well.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia series is probably the manufacturer's most exciting lineup of phones. First, there was the Windows Mobile-powered Xperia X1. Then along came its successor, the X2, as well as the Android-based Xperia X10. We also shouldn't forget those little fellas - the X10 mini and mini pro, which redefined the meaning of compactness. The latest addition to the Xperia lineup is a budget-cautious Android handset, which comes in a stylish outfit - the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8. From first sight, the X8 looks like a pretty decent lightweight smartphone; it has good looks, a passable 3-inch capacitive screen, as well as a pleasant and easy-to-use software. However, does everything the Xperia X8 is capable of come together nicely to form a worthy all-round smartphone package

Design:

You might actually mistake the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 with the X10 mini (or vice versa), if you're just looking at the images, as both handsets look almost identical. In reality though, The X8 shows its superiority by treating you to its 3-inch capacitive LCD screen with resolution of 320x480 pixels - more than enough for this screen size. Because it is a standard TFT (IPS LCD or AMOLED have yet to work their way to the mid- and low-end), viewing angles are now quite as good. Although it should be capable of showing 16 million colors, gradients are far from perfectly smooth. Not that this is all unbearable of course - we can live with it, especially having in mind the flawless touch registration of the capacitive panel. Outdoor visibility isn't a great issue, especially if you have the brightness bumped to the max, but you'll still have to shield the display in extreme situations.

Below the screen you can find the mandatory Menu, Home and Back keys that are totally in the style of Xperia Andorid phones, meaning chrome-like, adding to the stylish appearance of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8. The right side is where the volume rocker and one-step camera shutter (the 3.2MP camera lacks autofocus) are situated, and on the top you have the power/lock key, microUSB port and a standard 3.5mm headset jack.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is by no means an unattractive phone. Quite the contrary, it is one of the better looking Androids out there. Well, to tell you the truth, the body has a slight cheap feel to it, mostly due to the plastic rear cover. However, rear covers are also a strong point of the X8, because you can easily replace these with other color variants. All in all, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is a very elegant device, to say the least.
