X Treme Sports Fun » Blog Archive » 2011 MotoGP Sepang 2 Day 3 ...

The second and final test at Sepang is over, and if you needed to get a feel for the mood among the teams, all you need to do is read the press releases. The tone of the Repsol Honda press release is positively jubilant, and with good reason. As predicted â€" even by members of remote tribes in the depths of the Amazon forest who have never even heard of MotoGP â€" Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa smashed the 2'00 barrier for the first time on two wheels. Even more impressive was when: Stoner on just his second flying lap, Pedrosa managing it on the third. Both men followed up with an impressive race simulation, with a handful of 2'00s and a truckload of 2'01s, fast enough to have blitzed last year's race by a giant margin. The Hondas, as you have now heard ad nauseam, are fast.

Compare and contrast with Ducati. When the title of the press release is merely "Last Day Of Testing For Ducati Marlboro In Malaysia," then you know they're in trouble. Fastest of the Ducatis was once again Hector Barbera, the Mapfre Aspar rider ending the day in 10th, nearly 1.7 seconds off the time of Casey Stoner. Valentino Rossi, returning to testing after missing yesterday due to a fever, could manage just the 11th fastest time, 1.8 seconds behind Stoner, and with an identical time to his teammate Nicky Hayden.

The Ducati Marlboro motorcycle racing team concluded the second Malaysian MotoGP looking for answers, with Valentino Rossi (VR46) and Nicky Hayden (#69) finishing the third day back in 11th and 12th out of 17.

The progress was slower than what the team had hoped for and now only have the final March 13 and 14 winter test at the Qatar Losail International Circuit, prior to the MotoGP season opener at the same racetrack.

In Sepang, the Italian rider lost an entire day of testing, as he spent Wednesday in bed with a bad flu. Rossi was back aboard the GP11 for the final day, but despite hard work with his crew and lowering his best time compared to Tuesday, the necessary margin of improvement is still significant.Valentino

Valentino Rossi (Ducati MotoGP Rider) says: "We can't be satisfied with this test because we didn't reach our goals, which were to finish close to the top six and especially to reduce the gap to the front. Instead, we're 1.8 seconds back, and our rhythm is also lacking."

The American Nicky Hayden had similar difficulty making steps forward, despite his feeling with the bike improving steadily over the three days.

Nicky Hayden (Ducati MotoGP Rider) says: "We're still behind, not because of any major problem, but a combination of little details that prevented us from getting the results that we'd hoped for. I've got a good bike and team, and we definitely need to do better than this."

While the official MotoGP pre-season tests took place in Sepang with Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden, Filippo Preziosi and the development team went to Jerez de La Frontera in Spain, working with test rider, Franco Battaini, over a three-day session the find some answers.

While over-seeing the progress on the Spanish circuit, Preziosi has remained in constant contact with the team in Malaysia, coordinating the work of the engineers to enhance the development program of the Desmosedici.

A Ducati spokesperson sent comments to Ultimate MotorCycling: "We have also continued to work on the chassis set-up, gathering data which we will return to the factory for comparison with that of Sepang. In Malaysia we have not finished in a position inline with our original target but this was also due to some back luck."

Apparently all the crew out at both race tracks and back at the Ducati Factory have been working flat out. And rightfully so as the necessary margin of improvement is still significant.

The Ducati MotoGP Team will meet with race fans on March 4 in Bologna, Italy but don't have a lot to smile about compared to Honda and Yamaha at this early point in the season.

Onlookers wonder if the Italian goat (greatest-of-all-time) can develop the bike as needed, while others continue to show their support for Hayden who has struggled on the Ducati platform over the least few years.

Rizla Suzuki MotoGP Goes Draggin | Motorcycle News

Draggin will be an official supplier for Alvaro Bautista and the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP crew with its range of protective jeans for the third motorcycle racing season in succession.

Draggin will also supply the Rizla cargos and shorts to the Suzuki GSV-R crew. The working conditions of a MotoGP garage are matched to Draggin products and the entire team is stated to be using the Australian designs.

For street bike riding, Draggin are lined with a revolutionary hybrid of knitted Dyneema, one of the World's Strongest Fiber, and Kevlar, which makes them strong enough to withstand at least 4.4 seconds of abrasion resistance while also being lightweight and comfortable.

Draggin is a leader in protective jeans and are the only makers of CE Approved motorcycle jean in the world. Grant Mackintosh founded Draggin in 1997 and shortly began marketing his new invention by literally putting his backside on the line to prove the quality of his product.

Grant was dragged behind a motorcycle, with the drag test starting out at a slow pace and gradually building up to over 110 km per hour.

Since the very first drag test was conducted, many Draggin fans that have complete faith in the product have put their backsides on the road to prove the product.

Rizla Suzuki will be using Draggin's range of shorts, cargos, and jeans at all MotoGP events this year and look forward to a happy and successful partnership with the Australian company.

Paul Denning (Rizla Suzuki MotoGP) says: "We have slowly developed our relationship with Draggin Jeans since Chris Vermeulen introduced us in 2008, and we are proud to be associated with a great company and an innovative, stylish safety product - one which enhances the pleasure of riding for all its customers.

"The products supplied to the team are high quality, stylish and practical - Draggin are a great addition to the MotoGP paddock".

Team Ducati MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi stands 11th at Sepang ...

Valentino Rossi, chief rider of the team Ducati at the MotoGP has stood 11th in the overall performance at the Sepang test this week, and it is here where everyone is started to get concerned. Before the commencement of the Sepang episode, Rossi was having some fitness issues but he came out well from it and performed as an average rider.

The struggle between him and his Ducati was seen clearly on the track and maybe he would be missing his M1 here. He was only 0.8 seconds behind the leader Casey Stoner, who was flawless on his Honda. Team Yamaha was performing even better without Rossi, so could there be a glitch here?

The sun was high, and the heat was taking its toll in Sepang Malaysia, Rossi rode his Ducati for 59 laps and alas there was only a small reward, he finds out he stood 11th. When interviewed he did not lose hope, rather he said he will like to make some changes in his tyres and see whether he could perform better on the third day.
