STONER BETTERS ROSSI’S LAP TIME IN SEPANG
Sepang â€" Repsol Honda new recruit Casey Stoner ran a dazzling final lap on the second day of the MotoGP official test to better Valentino Rossi’s best lap time around Sepang Circuit with a sensational time of 2 minutes 0.171 seconds to top timesheet for a second consecutive day.

Covering 42 laps for the day and fastest yesterday, the former world champion bettered Rossi’s time of 2 minutes 0.271 seconds, which the nine-times world champion recorded last year on his Yamaha M1 during last day of the second test session in Sepang.
Rossi, however, was not at the circuit to catch that scintillating run by the 2007 world champion as the Ducati Marlboro new recruit had skipped today’s session due to sickness.
Day 2 was also a day that the three-man Repsol Honda team send a strong message of their intention to wrest back the world crown as the Australian team-mates â€" Spaniard Dani Pedrosa and Italian Andrea Dovizioso took second and third spots respectively in today’s time-sheet.
Second fastest yesterday with a time of 2 minutes 1.360 seconds, Pedrosa also went faster today; clocking 2 minutes 0.229 seconds on his fourth lap of the 41 laps that he made today. Dovizioso had a best time of 2 minutes 0.531 seconds around the 5.543-kilometer track.
Defending champion and Yamaha Factory Racing lead rider for 2011 â€" Jorge Lorenzo was fifth fastest with a time of 2 minutes 0.931 seconds; and was upstaged by his new team-mate Ben Spies, who had 2 minutes 0.824 seconds.
Covering 54 laps, the American was clearly pushing his Yamaha M1 machine as his run ended at 5.16pm after he crashed at Turn 7 and damaged his bike. The American was, however, unhurt from the incident.
Turn 7 also took down Karel Abraham as the MotoGP rookie dropped his Ducati 15 minutes before the end of Day 2 session at 5.45pm.
The MotoGP riders would have their last test in Sepang tomorrow before going for the final test session at Losail Circuit next month ahead of the season-opener Qatar Grand Prix.
