Casey Stoner ended the final MotoGP pre-season test in Sepang in spectacular style on today, smashing the lap record at the Malaysian circuit. The Australian topped the time sheets ahead of his Repsol team mate Dani Pedrosa, with Marco Simoncelli third quickest. Great things are expected of Stoner this season â€" and the Australian gave a prime example of his potential on the last day of testing. He looked impressive throughout the build up to the 2011 season â€" and once again his Repsol Honda RC212V delivered a dominant performance. Stoner smashed the lap record at the Malaysian circuit with a time of one minute 59.665 seconds â€" understandably satisfied at the end of an encouraging three days: “Definitely going into the ‘59 is a nice feeling and something to leave this test with, really good,” says Stoner Immediately behind Stoner was his team mate Dani Pedrosa â€" the only other man to go under two minutes. The Spaniard’s best effort was a lap of one minute 59.803 seconds â€" inside Valentino Rossi’s previous circuit record set in 2009. Marco Simoncelli was fastest in the Sepang test three weeks ago, but could not quite repeat the feat. Instead the Italian had to be content with the third in a time of two minute 0.163 seconds â€" the San Carlo Honda Gresini rider performing well on both hard and soft tyres throughout the three days. Behind him was the third Repsol rider, Andrea Dovizioso â€" posting a time of 2 minutes, 0.541 seconds â€" just under a second slower than his team mate Stoner. Ben Spies is a new face at the Yamaha team, and the American set the highest placing on a Yamaha â€" fifth on the time sheet in a time of two minutes 0.678 seconds and showing no ill effects after a small spill on Wednesday. World champion Jorge Lorenzo was seventh on the time sheets, just over 1.3 seconds behind the time set by Stoner. The Factory Yamaha Racing rider still getting to grips with his M1 bike, finishing the session with a long 20-lap run. Valentino Rossi again struggled as he prepares for his first race on the Ducati â€" the Italian though not found wanting for effort as he put in 59 laps on the final day.
