2010 Abu Dhabi GP (Yas Marina): Formula One (F1) Qualifying Results - Vettel, Red Bull On Pole!

By Mike Sulka

Red Bull F1 driver Sebastian Vettel has taken the all important Pole for the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. With the result, Vettel now has ten Poles in 19 races this season, and 15th in his career. For the Red Bull Formula One team it is their 15th Pole of the 2010 F1 season.

Vettel said of his achievement and his possibility of becoming the youngest ever World Champion, "We knew that the conditions would be tricky, and we made a big step today. If we had done two runs at the end that would have been the better choice. Now we are looking forward to tomorrow, and we'll see what happens."

2008 Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton put in a fantastic run and is still mathematically able to take the 2010 Formula One drivers championship, but all of the championship competitors need to go scoreless with Hamilton taking the win.

Hamilton said of his run, "We have done some great things, It's a good feeling. We are quite thrilled, and quite happy. Jenson also did a great job today. I'm just here to enjoy myself this weekend."

Ed. Note - Button qualified fourth.

Two-time Formula One drivers champion Fernando Alonso now holds the F1 championship in his vise-like grip as long as he can stay ahead of Mark Webber. Alonso has an eight point advantage over Webber, and a 15 point advantage over Vettel. The 2010 drivers championship will be decided by how Alonso races.

"The positions were constantly changing and our first attempt was not great," said Alonso. "But the second run was better, and we need just need one more day of perfection."

Not total perfection, but a clean third place run will win Alonso the championship.

A clearly disappointed Mark Webber said about his blown qualifying - fifth fastest), "Fifth on the grid is not good. I'm disappointed I couldn't get the pace, but the fat lady hasn't sung. We're still in the hunt."

Christian Horner commented, "It was a shame for Mark, it just hasn't come together for him. Sebastian got the job done, while Mark has lost by a tenth to Button. The only way for Mark to win the championship now is to overtake Alonso."

The 2010 Formula One season finale will be decided under racing conditions, and is sure to be a great battle! Stay tuned to PaddockTalk for all of your Formula One (F1) news, rumors and results!
